Since its founding in 1829—during the Edo period—Nabeya has seen many events unfold and welcomed a wide variety of visitors.

“Hitoyoshi Onsen Nabeya” was founded in the 12th year of the Bunsei era (1829) in what is now Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, as an inn for travelers of the Sagara Domain. Over its history of more than 190 years, it has been patronized by members of the Imperial Family as well as various cultural figures and celebrities and has carried on its traditions as a long-established ryokan representing the healing tradition of Hitoyoshi Onsen and its rich history of Kyushu.
